On Saturday, in spite of the fact that none of us woke up until close to NOON, we still decided to take advantage of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be in Torino before the olympics were over. At this point, only one of us had been on public transportation (François, to get to the hospita
l and meet with Dr. Rosai Friday afternoon) and none of us had been to the train station. To make a long story short, we caught the right tram to Stazione Centrale, where Simeon loved both riding the tram and seeing pigeons fly inside the train station.
We hadn't planned much before this trip for lack of time and being so tired, so after the 1 hour + ride to Torino, we didn't have a definite destination. F had looked at tickets to events, but they were way out of our price range. We walked around and saw plenty of the town, met up with a couple from Los Angeles who pointed us in the WRONG direction to see the shroud, stopped at a pizzaria for dinner, and barely made it back to the station in time for the trip home. Simeon was a trooper on the train in spite of the late hour (the train home made lots of stops and didn't get back to Milan until after 22:00; then we still had the trek home from the station on a bus) as you can see:
