dooley & the snortsnoot, simeon-style

Here's an old favorite all the Knoble's should recognize. It's really only half the story, and S has learned it by listening to a recording of Grandad reading it years ago to a small small version of me, on the couch in Hendersonville. You can even hear Ginger barking and Mom doing dishes in the background. Much like my younger self, the giant's common phrase is Simeon's favorite part. Here's a transcript, the best I could do:

Once there was a giant family. And there was a Papa giant and a Mama giant and a Boy giant. But the boy’s name was Dooley. And, so, one day … um… so Dooley went into the village to scare someone. And um the first person that he saw was a girl named Trina. And Dooley stand up tip-toe to make him tallest as he can. So, he said, “FI FIE FO FUM!” But… but Trina giggled. And um, but Trina shouted, “FI FIE FO FUM!” but Dooley was so startled that he fell down! So, the children other came over to ask what was going on. “We’re playing giants,” Trina explained. And… um… and um the other children just liked to play with them, and said “FI FIE FO FUM!” The end.
